Writer's NB: Creative Memoir Hooks

Sometimes, when I'm not sure what to write about, I sit down with a steaming cup of coffee and begin writing a few creative hooks. From there, I might feel a tug to finish one of the stories I have started. Other days, I just leave them, knowing that someday I will come back to them!

Memoir Story Starters

1. “Bob! Grab the vacuum!” my mother screamed in terror as a hornet buzzed near her face.

2. “Someday, I’m going to fall in love with a girl who loves ice-cream as much as I do,” Paul said nonchalantly.  We were sitting on my kitchen counter eating ice-cream and I couldn’t stop myself from picturing my childhood freezer.  At all times, it had been stocked with various ice-cream flavors.  At least once a week, my family would stand around the kitchen island, laughing and enjoying big creamy spoonfuls of Breyers ice-cream.

3. Thirty pairs of eyes pierced through the pitch black night. Thirty pairs of hands reached out to me.  My heart sank like a rock as I realized I could never feed them all.

4. It was three in the morning on a school night and I was curled up in a ball in my kitchen, pressing ice to my raw
skin.
