Welcome to Read and Write Like It Matters! My name is Mrs. J and I'm so happy you are here. I've spent 6 years teaching middle school language arts in both urban and suburban schools and I currently work as a reading specialist in a K-8 school. I'm also a mom to two sweet babies, Ella and Oliver. 

I believe with all my heart that reading & writing matter. They allow us to step into the shoes of others, past and present, in countries all over the world, or even people who live right down the street.  They help our minds grow and develop, give us the tools for cultivating gratitude, developing dreams, and processing challenges. They are a means by which we can preserve our memories and they give us the power to express ourselves in new and creative ways.  It is for these reasons that reading and writing matter!

My hope is to share simple, yet effective strategies for inspiring our students to love reading and writing whether they are 2 or 12, in a traditional classroom setting, online, or home-schooled. My goal is to create lessons that draw in real-world experiences and the unique passions and talents of your students so that every lesson can be engaging and personal.
