Book Lists

As a teacher, I always enjoyed asking students to write about their history as a reader. It was fascinating to read about each student's experiences with reading–who has read to them, what their home library looks like, and what books they have discovered over the years. It always helped me to try to play book match-maker to know what genres and stories they had already fallen in love with (even if they have only ever loved one single book).

It has been a few years since I've taught in the classroom, and I miss it very much, but it has been delightful to spend the last few years "catching up" on books that I never read as a child/teenager. Oh, how I wish I could go back to my classroom to play matchmaker now that I've expanded my own knowledge of great books!

Here are a few places I look for great books to read:

1) ReadAloudRevival.com

2) Honey for a Child's Heart

3) The Read Aloud Handbook

Book lists are wonderfully helpful, but I've found that it is especially helpful when we hear or give a little book talk or "commercial" to bring the story to life in a personal way!
